Type your address. You'll see how many homes BC's new housing laws allow on your lot, how tall you can build, and a rough idea of what a builder might pay for it.
What BC's 2024 housing laws changed
- Most house lots in BC towns and cities over 5,000 people now allow 3 or 4 homes: a house with suites, a duplex, a triplex or a fourplex.
- Lots near frequent buses can allow up to 6 homes when the lot is big enough.
- Near SkyTrain stations and some bus exchanges (transit-oriented areas), apartment buildings are allowed: up to 20 storeys right next to a station, lower further out.
- Each city still sets the details (height, size, setbacks, trees), so the answer can differ from lot to lot. That is what the lot page shows.
Thinking of selling?
A lot that allows more homes can be worth more to a builder than to a family buyer. A licensed REALTOR® with Vanak International Properties can tell you what yours could sell for. Free, no obligation.
